United Christian Missions, Inc.
provides food
for the needy for churches and mission teams to distribute to needy and
deserving church families, to rest homes, and to prisons.
UCM believes the
local church should minister to the needs of its members when
identified by the local church membership. In a culture where most
individuals are in need, we believe the local church is in the best
position to identify the desperately needy among its membership and
community.
In addition to
providing food for church families, it is also important that the
church look beyond it’s own membership to look for ways to carry
out the Great Commission of our Lord. Churches are encouraged to
establish rest home ministries where resident’s meals often
consist only of beans or rice.
One nursing home
with which we partner did not have pillows for its residents. They
only had one-half of a blanket. There were 14 residents to a room and
only a bucket for a shower or tub. Often we have visited and found
very little food. They had no aspirins or any type of pain relievers.
We also found residents whose bodies were weak because of hardships
but whose spirits soared just to know someone cared. We always assure
them that it is Jesus who cares and He is why we are there along with
the local church.
The local church
is also encouraged to look beyond its membership to other areas of
ministry through jail and prison ministries. Ministering in
Jesus’ name to loved ones in jail ministers to the whole family.
Often people are in jail simply because they felt they had no other
way to provide for their family than by stealing.
Visualize cells
built with two cement bunk beds containing 12 inmates. Each cell has
one light bulb, no running water and a bucket for a toilet. Imagine
being a police officer and walking over mountainous terrain with no
flashlight, radio or handcuffs. Mission opportunities are bountiful
for law enforcement as well as inmates.
A gift of any
amount designated for nursing homes or prisons will be used 100 percent as
designated.
